REMINDER--AUGUST 24 SCHEDULE:
Poca Middle School's doors open at 7:15 for student drop off and students will be tardy after 7:53. Remember we will have an alternate schedule for the first day of school on Thursday, August 24.
School will begin at the normal start time for all 6th graders and buses will run their regular route times to pick them up. There will be a 3.5 hour delayed arrival time for all 7th & 8th graders. The buses will run their routes 3.5 hours later to pick up the 7th & 8th graders. All 7th & 8th grade students may begin arriving at 10:45 and should be in the building by 11:20 for classes to begin.
School will end at the regular time for all students at 3:05.

Excuses & Notes Policy:
When your student misses school, we must receive their medical/parent excuse on the first day they return to school in the front office excuses basket. You may also fax the excuse to 304-755-8930. Per state policy, any excuses turned in late will be kept on file, but WILL NOT be excused. Excuses will not be accepted through email.
If your student is going home with another student at the end of the day, a note from you, as well as the other student's parent, must be received by the front office the morning of this change. Verification will be made by the office staff and signed by administration before the change can be made. These notes will not be accepted through email.

Hello Poca Middle families! This is a reminder that Open House will be tomorrow from 5:00-7:00. Also, we will gladly accept classroom donations such as disinfectant wipes, tissues, hand sanitizer, etc. Open House is a time for students to familiarize themselves with the school, meet their teachers, coaches, administrators & ask questions. Hello Poca Middle families. The buses will run their same routes again 3 1/2 hours later to pick up 7th & 8th graders. School will end at the regular time for all students at 3:05. Again, on the first day of school, all 6th grade students will report to school at the normal start time. Doors will open to 6th graders at 7:15 and they should be in the building by 7:50 for their WEB activities to begin. This Wednesday only, 7th & 8th graders will report 3 1/2 hours later than normal. This means 7th & 8th grade students may begin arriving at 10:45 and should be in the building by 11:20 for classes to begin. Hello 7th grade families. This is reminder that all 7th grade students must have received the T-dap and meningococcal (MCV4) immunizations. If you have shot records to turn in to the school, this must be done no later than Thursday, September 7th. If we do not have shot records for your student, showing proof these two immunizations have been administered, your student will not be permitted to return to school after September 7th until they have received both shots. These absences will not be excused. You may call the Putnam County Health Department or your student's pediatrician to schedule these shots. Shot records may be turned in to the main office or faxed to 304-755-8930. Thank you!

You must have a current physical dated after May 1, 2023 and a completed sports packet submitted to participate. If you turned in a physical/packet during the 3-week window in June, you will need to tell your coach to confirm the paperwork is on file. We are looking forward to another great year at PMS!
Attention Poca High Students: Any student who plans on participating in fall sports must attend the first week of practice for their particular sport to be eligible to participate this fall. Practices begin on Monday, July 31st. Volleyball practice begins Monday, August 7th.
This is a reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday, May 24 is Step Up Day for 8th graders. They will ride their regular bus to Poca High School instead of the middle school. If your student is parent drop off, please drop them directly to Poca High by 8am. A bus will bring them all back to the middle school upon conclusion of Step Up Day activities. Thank you!
Hello Poca Middle families. Step up day for 8th grade students will take place on Wednesday, May 24. All 8th grade students will report directly to Poca High School this coming Wednesday by 8am. If your student rides the bus, they may take their regular bus to PHS & they will be directed where to go once they arrive that morning. If you drive your student to school, you will drop them to PHS no later than 8am. There will be a bus to pick them up from PHS and return them to Poca Middle around 10am, once step up day activities have concluded. Also, we will have an academic awards assembly on Thursday, May 25 from 8:30-10:30am; parents are welcome to attend. Students with straight A's or that are a member of groups such as WEB or Student Council will receive certificates. Grade level awards will be given out to several students as well. If your student will receive a grade level award, you will be contacted through Schoology so you know if you should attend the ceremony. Thank you!
Parents: This is a notification that the Department of Highways has closed Route 62 in front of Poca High School for repairs. Traffic is being rerouted through Dairy Road and Silver Street. If you need to travel through this area to pick up your student at the end of the day, please allow extra travel time due to the detour and possible traffic. Buses will run their regular routes this afternoon. Thank you!

Hello Poca Middle 8th Grade families! We would like to invite you to attend our 8th Grade Parent Night on Thursday, March 2 from 5:30-6:30 in the Library. Mr. Glass, Counselor from Poca High School, will be here to present information regarding high school scheduling, course selections, personalized education plans, advanced and honors courses, and basic information regarding the transition to high school. This will be a great opportunity to ask questions and feel more confident about what to expect at the high school level. We hope to see you here!

Hello Poca Middle families! We would like to invite all Poca Middle students to attend the Cupid Shuffle Dance this Thursday, February 16 from 3:15-5:15. Admission is $5 and concessions will be available. All students must be picked up at the conclusion of the dance by 5:15. Students will not be permitted to leave the dance early unless a parent comes in to sign their student out. We look forward to seeing you there!
